With the goal of reducing its environmental footprint, Meridian Pacific Mortgages Inc. has joined the list of businesses going carbon neutral. Meridian Pacific has teamed up with Zerofootprint to offset the carbon dioxide produced from its daily operations.

“It was quite simply the right thing to do to give back to the environment.” says Gina Best, owner of Meridian Pacific Mortgages. With some help from the Meridian Team, Gina calculated each broker’s home office heating and electrical bills per square foot, worked out the paper used for print jobs and added in the same usage for Meridian Pacific’s Head Office. These facts and figures were provided to Zerofootprint and they calculated how many tones of CO2 Meridian Pacific produces each year. Meridian Pacific in turn, has purchased Carbon Offsets and contributes to tree and watershed restoration.

You might think that this could add up to a lot of money, but it’s not! “It was considerably less than we thought and a small amount to give back to our children and future generations” says Gina.

In a further commitment to protect the environment, Gina drives a Smart Car and recently the company has purchased re-usable clothe bags from Bring Your Own Bag www.bringyourownbag.ca to use for client appreciation and promotion. Additionally, the company has made a commitment to reduce the amount of offsets that will be needed next year, to do this they are going “paperless” storing client files securely on a server and allowing clients to keep their original signed copies.
